Here we are, on the train again. This morning we leisurely
packed up our bags, cleaned up the apartment, ate some breakfast, and made some
sandwiches for lunch. I forgot to tell you about our apartment – it was really nice,
with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Though it was in the basement, it had been
newly renovated, and was filled top to bottom with Ikea furniture, from the
lights to the couch to the plates. The only imperfection was a wave in the
floor and the slight stench of sewer water, but it was barely noticeable and
still a great place to be. We even had our own astro-turf patio, and if that
doesn’t say luxury I don’t know what would.
The first day we were
concerned about the location because once we dropped our stuff off, we really
needed water, but according to Victoria (or her phone) the closest grocery
store wasn’t for two miles. Unfortunately, we didn’t have much of a choice, so
we began to head towards the distant store. As we shut the front door to the
building, we noticed a little sign right above us that read, “Supermercado.” We
literally shared a wall with the store. It was great, we were able to get water
and transfer the job of navigator from Victoria to Addy all in a matter of a
few steps.
Anyway, back to today, we
left our apartment by cab around noon and were successfully on the train by
departure time (right train, right car, we are learning). On our way to the
station, we drove by some other very cool sites that we didn’t have a chance to
visit yesterday. Oh well, guess we’ll just have to come back someday! To get to
La Coruna, we’ll have to take 3 different trains and we have little layovers in
between. We won’t be arriving in La Coruna until around 9:30 tonight, and our program director is set to be waiting to pick us up there. We don’t mind the
traveling too much – the heat is pretty wicked today in Madrid and its
surrounding areas, about 100 degrees with humidity, so it feels good to be on
the air-conditioned train. We’ve decided none of us handle heat very well, so
the constant ocean breeze and maximum temperature of 80 degrees in La Coruna
will be wonderful. Plus, being on the train gives us more time to sleep, as we
seem to still be trying to catch up from our spring semester.
We are all very excited to get
to La Coruna. There we will have our own apartments with Spanish roommates so
we can finally unpack our stuff for a little while. We are also very much
looking forward to the beach, meeting our fellow classmates, and exploring yet
another new place. Until then, hasta la vista!
I am an excellent sleeper. Thank you for noticing. |
Caught 'em (even Victoria's buddy over there) |
I don't know how that happened to her eyebrow, but I was hoping it would never change. |
Quote(s) of the day:
“Did that guy just park in the middle of the road?” – Addy. If you’re curious, he did in fact park in the middle of a lane so he could go grocery shopping. It is a different place over here for sure.
"Is there still chocolate in my ear?" - Victoria, on the train. We really don't know what happened there.

Baguettes consumed recently:
At least 2 today, too many to count overall.
Bad Spanish movies watched:
currently at 2, but I’m only understanding 30 percent of the words, so that
might be why they’re bad. Personal problem.
Update: We made it and I have a lot to tell you, but it'll have to wait! Talk to you soon!
